In Studio, background removal downloads are always delivered as a transparent PNG. That means the background is removed and the exported image includes an alpha channel (transparency), so you can place it on any background in your editor, design tool, or website.
Good to know: If you replace the background with a solid color in Studio, you’ll still download a PNG; it just won’t be transparent anymore because the background is filled in.
How Studio PNG exports work
Studio is designed to make background removal simple: upload your image, let BackgroundErase remove the background automatically, and download the result. By default, that result is a PNG so transparency is preserved.
This makes Studio especially useful for product photos, profile images, graphics, and any workflow where you want to place a subject onto a different background later.
Step-by-step
- Upload an image to Studio (drag-and-drop, paste, or click Upload image).
- Wait a moment while BackgroundErase removes the background automatically.
- Click Download.
- Choose Standard or Full resolution.
- Your result downloads as a transparent PNG.
Want a different output format?
Studio always exports PNG files, but the API supports additional output formats. If you want to try API options without writing code, visit backgrounderase.com/playground .
In the Playground, you can test API settings directly in the browser, including outputting the result in different file formats such as PNG, JPG, or WebP.
Tip: Use Studio when you want the simplest transparent PNG workflow. Use the API Playground when you want to experiment with API-specific output options.
